Horn Lessons

Getting a private tutor for a musical instrument is key to assessing your individual needs. Private lessons, along with everyday practice, will ensure progress on your instrument.

I cater our sessions to fit the student’s level and needs. We work on anything the student is working towards– whether it’s learning the basics of the horn or preparing for an audition– we will make sure they are working towards their goals. We will also always have every day warm ups, scales, and etudes or tone studies to make sure they have the fundamental skills to play anything.

A part of horn playing is learning to care for the instrument as well. I will teach how to oil valves, grease slides, and clean the horn at home.

Currently, I am able to see vaccinated students in person at my home (preferred), or at other locations tbd. Also, I’ve discovered during COVID, that FaceTime and Zoom work, too! For beginning students or for me getting to know someone, this isn’t ideal as a first-time situation, but can be a useful tool for busier times, or if someone is feeling ill and needs to stay home.

Expectations

I expect my students to PRACTICE. Every day. Even if it’s just 5 minutes. Just pick up your horn. The more you practice, the better you’ll get, it’s that simple.

You need to have a horn. A double horn is preferable. Schools have horns to loan most of the time, and there are rentals available at many music stores.

There will be other materials to purchase as well– you will need a tuner, metronome, valve oil, slide grease, a composition notebook, and, depending on your level, I will have you buy a specific book. Older students will need other accessories like mutes.

Always bring a pencil.

Have a good attitude and be on time.

Sharing is caring, but not if you’re sick! Stay home if you have any symptoms of anything. I have a family member that cannot get ill.

Depending on your ailment or situation, we can do a Facetime/Zoom lesson in lieu of in-person.
